Quick Guide to Writing Fiction and Nonfiction books

Fiction Writer's Guidelines

When we first started Old American Publishing back in 2006, we could not handle fiction books. With success, however, comes growth. So beginning now, we are accepting fiction books, and we are not too particular about the category. We prefer western and science fiction, but we will look at just about anything except porn.

However, don't send us your complete manuscript unless we ask you to. We would like to get to know you first. We especially like period pieces from just about any time in history. We want manuscripts with 25,000 words or more, but please do not exceed 80,000 words.

Send a query letter to Ronnie Wilder, acquistions editor,
In your letter you should include the following:
  • one- or two-page summary of your book
  • basic outline
  • short summary of the plot
  • description of the time and setting
  • your biography (as a writer)
  • first two chapters of your book
  • last chapter of your book
  • your contact information
By telling you to send your story via email, we shouldn't have to tell you that handwritten and typewriter generated stories will not be accepted.

Oh, yes, one more thing--If you have not finished your book, please don't send us a query letter.
