| Old American Publishing has never made any money publishing poetry. In fact, we
do not personally know any poets who make a living selling their poetry. Poetry may be the highest art from of writing, but
it's the least lucrative.
Of course, if we only wrote things that paid well, then we would all be technical writers explaining how to program computers and build oilfield equipment. If you are a great poet and have a ready made market for your books, we will publish them for you. But we will not market them. We do not know how, and we cannot afford to learn. We also cannot spend a lot of time and money designing your book and making illustrations for it. You will have to furnish your own artwork for your book. We will design a cover that suits our desinger, and we will layout the book to our specifications. If you require more extensive or personalized treatment than we want to give, we will gladly refer you to a subsidy publisher. If you still want to talk to Old American Publishing about publishing your poetry book, send us a query letter. Include half a dozen of your favorite poems. If we like your poetry, we will try to work with you. All submissions must be digital. Do not send entire manuscripts. In fact, we do not return samples or artwork. Send your query letter and digitally produced sample poems to: Poetry Editor Old American Publishing 1 Plaza South #416 Tahlequah, OK 74464 |
